Al Hamra Tower

Al Hamra Tower
Brief Intro
The Al Hamra tower (Link), named after one of the many gates that outlined Kuwait of old, is quickly becoming a source of great pride for Kuwaitis. The building is the tallest tower in Kuwait, aping the Kuwait Towers and the Liberation Tower, as well as being the largest "sculpted" tower in the world. Turner Construction was tasked with building the tower, with the American firm Skidmore, Owings and Merrill designing it. The structure, mainly composed of concrete, consists of commercial space for shops and offices. A mall is also part of the structure, consisting of restaurants, shops and only the second cinema company in Kuwait, ending the monopoly held by the incumbent company, KNCC. The official launch date of the tower was set up to be the 12th day of the 12th month of the year 2012, even though several establishments were open within the tower before the launch date. Attending the launch were several key figures in Kuwait, most notably HH The Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmed Al Jaber Al Sabah. (Story)

Kuwait's Celebration

State of Kuwait Emblem

Description

Kuwait celebrated the golden jubilee anniversary on November 11 2012. The celebration was a bit over the top, but it was superbly done and well thought out. The celebration consisted of a fireworks display that broke several world records, including the world's largest fireworks display. The fireworks cost the paltry sum of approximately 4 million Kuwaiti Dinars (sarcasm). More than seventy thousand fireworks were used and the company Filmmaster MEA was responsible for setting up the show. As a country that prides itself as being a pioneer in establishing a form of democracy in the region, Kuwait saw the golden jubilee as an ideal opportunity to show the world how important the constitution is to the country with thousands upon thousands attending the celebration along the coast. The celebration also came in at a vital time where unity was required in order to overcome the recent political turmoil.

Tourism in Kuwait

Kuwaiti Flag

I found this great article on attractions in Kuwait:
Kuwait is a modern nation with a rich history. Situated on the Arabian Peninsula between Saudi Arabia and Iraq with its coast on the Persian gulf, it has a culture influenced by the peoples of the Arabian uplands, Mesopotamia, ancient Greece and traders along the spice trail. The modern day Kuwait is an oil rich urbanised emirate. Based around the capital of Kuwait City, it has boomed since the discovery of the natural resource in the 1930s. With a cosmopolitan mixture of old and new, Kuwait might be the destination that you've been seeking, for that unique holiday experience or even to settle down. There is certainly plenty to see and do.
Owing to its extensive gulf coastline, Kuwait offers many activities on or around the water. Pearl Diving was formerly a crucial industry in the state before the discovery of oil. Most diving now occurs during pearl diving festivals in which the Kuwaitis re-enact their traditional diving methods before rounding off the festival with song and dance. If you want to get below the water yourself, Kuwait's reefs and islands offers plenty of opportunities to scuba dive and experience the underwater marine life first hand.
